The City of Winnipeg is unveiling a new street-facing parking sign and a new design for a sidewalk-facing sign.

New street-facing signs will be going up in the Exchange District this week, hoping to clear up confusion about parking regulations. Along with it is a new design for sidewalk-facing signs that previously got mixed reviews.

“Businesses have told us confusing parking signage remains one of the barriers for visitors to the Exchange District,” Councillor for Point Douglas Vivian Santos says in a Monday statement.

When the City of Winnipeg first released new sidewalk-facing parking signs this summer in the Exchange District, Winnipeggers were quick to point out their confusion about the small text and detail-filled signs. The newest design with more detail has the city hoping it will clear up the confusion of the previous parking signs.

"These signs have been redesigned with bolder colours and simpler icons to help drivers identify available spaces from their vehicle," the city says in a statement. "The new designs also consolidate multiple regulations into one sign where possible."

Matt Allard, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Infrastructure Renewal and Public Works, says the new signs were created using feedback from the public.

“The Public Service has worked hard to adapt public feedback into clearer and more convenient parking signage as viewed from both street and sidewalk,” Allard says in the statement.

The city is looking to get feedback from Winnipeggers, asking them to scan the QR code beside the signs or go online
