Security screening will remain in place at the Winnipeg's Millennium Library.

Councillors on the protection, community services and parks committee have unanimously endorsed an administrative recommendation to keep the security measures until there's money for alternative measures to deal with safety concerns.

The current measures include security wand screening and handbag checks for all visitors aged 13 years and older, but opponents say they negatively impact marginalized people.

The committee endorsed several staff recommendations for funding of de-escalation strategies, staff training and to increase the number of community crisis workers at the branch from two to four.
