It's the eighth annual Real to Reel Film Festival and it all kicks off on Tuesday.

"Our hope is to bring people together to watch movies," said Paul Boge, founder and coordinator of the Winnipeg Real to Reel Film Festival (WR2R).

WR2R strives to bring cool, clean and compelling films for the whole family. Families are one aspect they focused on specifically this year, making sure that every timeslot contained a standard movie, a documentary, and a kids movie.

Attendance at the event last year was just under 4000 and the reactions are always positive, Boge said.

"Overall, it gives them a chance to explore themes and topics they are interested in," he said.

Film screenings also include a talkback, where audience members can ask the filmmakers about their movies and why they did certain things. There are also chances outside the movie theatre to meet the filmmakers.

Boge's hope is that families and groups can come out to enjoy movies together and learn from the discussions. He also invites people to bring non-Christian friends, because he believes it's a safe and fun environment to learn about God.

WR2R runs from Tuesday, February 20 until Sunday, February 25 at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church. There are six theatres with multiple timeslots on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Films include newer movies like 'Same Kind of Different as Me' and 'The Case for Christ', as well as old favourites like 'Old Yeller'. Schedule and tickets are online.
