The Forks are working together with StorefrontMB to bring a very special contest to 2018: Cool Gardens.

This exhibit will feature submissions and installations from around the world that focus on the theme "cooling down from summer".

Eduardo Aquino, professor in the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba and co-curator for Cool Gardens in 2018, gave us details on the inspiration for this year's theme, "The inspiration for this theme came from the warming huts competition. During the winter, the warming huts competitions gathers international designers to conceive huts, sheds, and protection from the wind in the trails." He says, "we thought this could be the summer version of that. Gardening is something very important for our Canadian culture. Why not play it out and create a sister event for this idea."

These submissions will also be utilized for public projects in the City of Winnipeg and in the City of Brandon. If you're a designer, architect, landscape architect, and/or an artist who is interested in challenging and celebrating interfaces between urbanism, landscape, and design, register today for your chance to engage in the urban design culture of Winnipeg.

Eduardo says they do like to be surprised when they receive ideas, and competitors should feel open to be engaging, challenging, radical, provocative, and free of expectation. He urges you not to feel timid in your entries, as they are open to powerful creativity. Submissions will be judged by a new committee organized by Storefront Manitoba.

The Registration Fee of $50.00 can be paid at the SfMB Online Store here.

The deadline to register and pay your fee is December 21st, 2017

The deadline for Competition Submissions is January 15th, 2018

Cool Gardens is a project in collaboration between the Forks, and Storefront Manitoba; a grass roots organization that promotes architecture, design, and urban living in the city.
