Community transmission is on the rise and the City of Winnipeg is asking residents to be more diligent following provincial orders.

Members of the city's council, as well as residents, have noticed people gathering in public despite warning from the province not to.

Mayor Bowman says he himself has noticed citizens not following regulations set out by the province and is asking residents to follow orders carefully.

"These measures are not just for your safety. They are for the safety of everyone in our city," Bowman says.

Bowman adds that he"fully supports" efforts taken by the Province of Manitoba, and if requested, will issue fines to those not following public health orders.

There are no current plans from the province or city to fine people not following public health orders regarding gatherings over 10 people.

"This is not the time to get together with friends," Jason Shaw, the City of Winnipeg Emergency Operations Centre's manager says. "This is not the time for a pickup game of street hockey."

Residents are reminded that they need to practice physical distancing of two meters as well as not gather in groups of 10 people or more.
