Police believe the increase in violent crime is related to gang activity in Winnipeg.
On May 21, a 23-year-old man was out socializing in the morning when he was shot. Police responded at 9:30 a.m. to find the man on the front steps of a home. He was transported to hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced deceased.

The 30-year-old man is being charged with:
- First Degree Murder
- Discharge a Firearm Into or At a Place in a Reckless Manner
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Weapon
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Cocaine
While investigating, police discovered that the same building that the victim lived at had been shot at three days prior on May 18. Those 6 a.m shootings resulted in two suites becoming damaged.
Police are charging the 30-year-old in relation to both the homicide and the house shooting.
Later in the day, police received word that a second male suspect was believed to be in the hotel. The two were staying in the hotel together. Police believed the 21-year-old individual could be dangerous and brought the Tactical Support Team to assist.
