The wind warnings lived up to their expectations for many parts of Manitoba yesterday, while Winnipeg got off a little easier.

Jason Knight from Environment Canada says that Winnipeg's wind fell short of the warning criteria. "We topped out with a gust to 83 km/h in the mid-afternoon hours yesterday in Winnipeg."

Knight says that western Manitoba saw the highest winds. "Winds got up to 102 km/h through much of the day, only tapering off at sunset" for the Dauphin area.

The low-pressure system which brought the high winds has already reached Quebec according to Knight.

The interesting weather continues this week, however. It's possible that Winnipeg and other parts of the province could see record-setting heat on Friday. "We're forecasting 24 degrees for tomorrow, and our record is 23.9 degrees, so it will be quite close. Saturday as well," Knight says.
