A collision Thursday morning has closed a stretch of highway just north of Winnipeg.

Manitoba Infrastructure says in a tweet that the southbound lanes of Highway 8 were closed around 7:30 a.m.

The closure is in place from Highway 27 near the St. Andrew's Airport, and south through Highway 220 (Grassmere Rd.).

There is no word at this time on how many vehicles are involved or injuries. It's not clear how long the closure will be in place.

While the cause has also not been disclosed at this time, many highways throughout southern Manitoba are snow and ice-covered. With more snow expected throughout the day, combined with temperatures hovering around the freezing mark and high winds, it's expected that driving conditions on many highways will be poor.
