A spring storm has left highways throughout southern Manitoba in poor winter driving condition, and it's about to get worse.

Highways around Winnipeg are partly ice-covered as of 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

That includes the West, South, and East Perimeter Highway, as well as Highways 75 and 59 south of Winnipeg.

West of Portage la Prairie nearly all major highways are completely ice-covered, according to Manitoba Infrastructure reports.

That includes Highway 16 from Highway 1 all the way to the Saskatchewan border, as well as Highway 1 from Portage la Praire to the Saskatchewan border.

Many highways in the west were closed on Wednesday as a result of the storm, but have since reopened.

Up to 25 centimetres of snow is expected for the City of Winnipeg and other areas of eastern Manitoba over the next 24 hours making conditions worse.
