A Westman family is grieving the loss of their 11-year-old son this morning, but also celebrating the gift of life he gave others.

The family of Luke Hatcher has been sharing their grief on social media this week. Though they haven't said how the boy died, they have shared that because of organ donation he would leave a strong legacy behind.

"God has called you and me and your dad to do this one final job. Together we will make it through this day and at the end of it we will give you over to Jesus who will hold you in His strong arms for eternity"

The boy's mother, Aimee, made an emotional post on Tuesday, saying "As I sit at Luke’s bedside with Kevin today, we are trying desperately not to count the hours we have left.

"At 11 p.m. tonight we will take our final walk together as we escort Luke to the operating room where transplant teams from across North America will have gathered to help Luke fulfill the legacy of his life. We will have to leave him at the doors of the operating room, and I don’t know how we will have the strength to do it."

Aimee says that transplant specialists from around North America gathered at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg to help with the operation.

"Lukey Boy, we are walking this final road together. God has called you and me and your dad to do this one final job. Together we will make it through this day and at the end of it we will give you over to Jesus who will hold you in His strong arms for eternity."

Aimee asked that others would hold the surgeons in prayer as they did their work, that they would be able to do it well.

"And lastly we ask for all of you to pray for Kevin and I to have the strength and courage to let him go."

The mother's heartbreaking post has been shared on social media more than 400 times. Many people have promised to pray for the family as they grieve. They've also praised the family for the decision to donate Luke's organs so that others may live.
