The Edge Skatepark's annual fundraiser was a big hit this year, putting the emphasis on fun and on fund.

The annual Hockey Day in Winnipeg fundraiser took place at Youth for Christ Winnipeg over the weekend. The fundraiser is designed to raise money for The Edge Skatepark and let the teams have fun.

"We invite teams to raise funds," Geoff Reimer, co-director of The Edge Skatepark, said. "It's a really fun day to get the community together and spread the word around."

The day features short games and the ability to purchase various disadvantages for the other team, including making them shorthanded, pulling their goalie, or forcing one player to wear gloves that are oddly taped to a stick.

"[It's] all for a laugh and keeping it really fun and lighthearted," Reimer laughed.

The event raised $31,424, breaking last years total of $25,000.

"God really blew my mind this year," Reimer told us after the event. "I wasn't expecting we'd reach our goal since we had one less team [than last year]."

The funds raised go towards the park expenses as well as camps with the kids and extra events The Edge is a part of.
