A New York flight bound for Tel Aviv made an emergency landing after the cabin filled with smoke on Thursday night.

After prayers from concerned Nova Scotians, the airplane is making a safe landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport. The crew discovered the smoke after being in the air for an hour and a half, diverting the plane at 9:41 p.m. EST.

A citizen from Dartmouth says she heard the Boeing 777 flying low over the area sometime after nine o'clock and others reported hearing it over Sackville. This is consistent with the time the plane was set to land in Halifax.

Halifax emergency crews have been dispatched and are on the scene.

No one was injured during the emergency landing. There is no word yet on what caused the smoke.
