The actor who plays Jesus in what may be the best-known film about the Saviour of the world says a sequel is coming for The Passion of the Christ, based on Jesus' resurrection

"It’s going to be the biggest film in world history,” says Jim Caviezel.

Mel Gibson directed the first movie which was the telling of Jesus crucifixion. Gibson worked closely with Caviezel and the pair are working together again on this sequel, The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection.

"Mel Gibson just sent me the third draft, it's coming," says Caviezel in an interview with Breitbart News Daily.

While the first movie, released in 2004, did very well financially, it wasn't easy on the lead actor.

Recalling that time, Caviezel says, "Doing a film like The Passion of the Christ, if we're going to do that, it's going to be the gospel. I had a lot of pressure not to do that film."

The film follows along with a few gospels in the Bible and was filmed in Latin, Hebrew, and Aramaic to keep its authenticity.

“I had no choice. I had to defend it. I had to fight to survive. The film exploded. It was off the charts. You’d think, ‘Oh, you’re going to work a lot.’"

The Passion of the Christ garnered $612 million worldwide and only cost $30 million to make.

However, Caviezel basically got blacklisted afterward because of the content of the movie.

"I was no longer on the studio list. That was gone. I really felt that faith was much bigger than the industry and Hollywood, and bigger than the Republican or Democratic Party or any of that. I had a mission and I was called to do it."

While Caviezel believes God called him to act, being blacklisted initially after the first movie didn't hinder his resolve to continue acting.

"It’s so imperative in this time. These films can’t be made now. The films they make are Marvel Comics movies. You’ll see Superman. You won’t see Jesus. I got to play the greatest superhero there ever was," he says.

Now he'll play Jesus again in this upcoming movie. There is no news on the release date yet.

A brand-new movie Caviezel stars in was just released in theatres on September 18, 2020. Infidel is about religious persecution in Iran and based on a true story
