A serious accident closed down part of the Perimeter Highway Sunday afternoon as emergency personnel worked to free a man from his vehicle.

RCMP say that that accident occurred just after 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 between Kenaston Blvd. and Waverly St.

A car and pickup truck collided. Police believe the car tried to make a lane change when it was unsafe to do so.

The 48-year-old driver of the car was extricated by firefighters and taken to hospital. The man was transported in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the other vehicle was not hurt.

Police do not believe alcohol played a role in the accident. RCMP continue to investigate.
