The City of Winnipeg is notifying residents that the curbside yard waste collection season is coming to an end.

Specific dates depend on which area residents live in, yard waste collection will end at the end of November.

  • Area A: last yard waste collection will end the week of November 21-25, 2022.
  • Area B: last yard waste collection will end the week of November 28-December 2, 2022.

The city is also reminding the public there will be no collection on Remembrance Day (Friday, November 11). For those whose collection day falls on the holiday, it will be collected one day later for that week only.

Residents can put ward waste in any reusable container without a lid (e.g., plastic tubs, old blue boxes, old metal or plastic garbage containers). Containers should not be broken or damaged. Cardboard boxes and paper yard waste bags are also accepted.

Acceptable yard waste items include:

  • Grass clippings, leaves, plants and flowers
  • Bush/shrub clippings
  • Small tree branches (no more than 10 cm or four inches in diameter)
  • Fruit grown in yard
  • Halloween pumpkins, without paint, candles or decorations
  • Tied bundles of branches
  • Branches must be placed beside yard waste containers, weigh less than 22 kgs (50 lbs), be less than one metre (39 inches) long and less than 10 cm (four inches) in diameter.

When preparing for yard waste collection, residents are reminded to place yard waste containers to the side of recycling and garbage carts leaving an arm's length between them.

Residents are also being reminded to not move any yard waste material or debris onto the street as it can plug the street drains and cause ponding problems, as well as increase the risk of basement flooding.
