A 49-year-old Winnipeg man has been arrested and is now facing numerous theft-related charges, including 80 counts of unauthorized use of credit card data.

The man is believed to have attended various locations in Winnipeg between Jan. 1, 2021 and Mar. 25, 2021. The locations he frequented were primarily dog parks, daycares, and cemeteries, according to Winnipeg police.

At these locations, the man would wait until individuals parked and then break into vehicles where a wallet or purse had been left behind. He would then steal the contents and make fraudulent purchases at nearby businesses.

Police say the man also entered homes on three occasions where the occupant was busy outside and stole contents within.

On Mar. 25, the suspect was identified and arrested. He is facing charges of 56 counts of theft under $5,000; three counts of break, enter, and commit; and 80 counts of unauthorized use of credit card data.

The man has been detained in custody.
