A domestic incident has ended with one person dead, and another recovering in hospital after being shot by police Friday morning.

On October 18, 2019, at 8:00 a.m., East District General Patrol officers responded to a Domestic Incident in the 300 block of Riverton Avenue.

Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) says, "Upon arriving officers encountered an adult male at the residence. A confrontation occurred and as a result the male was shot by police.

The male was transported to hospital and is currently there. His condition is not known.

"Arriving officers also located a deceased adult female and are treating this as a homicide," says WPS.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation of the officer-involved shooting.

Responsibility for the investigation of the deceased female victim is now in the hands of The Winnipeg Police Homicide Unit.
