Police in Lyon, France are on a manhunt for the person who shot a Greek Orthodox priest on October 31, 2020, only two days after a terrorist attack at a church in Nice.

The priest was shot and critically wounded on Saturday while closing the doors to his church. He remains in the hospital in critical condition.

The French Police arrested a man on Saturday evening but it is unclear yet whether this is the gunman who shot the priest with a rifle.

According to CBN News, "Anti-terrorism prosecutors are not investigating the case, and the Lyon prosecutor opened an attempted murder investigation."

The priest was identified as Father Nikolaos Kakavelakis, a Greek citizen. Kakavelakis was set to return to Greece once his time at the church in Lyon, France was finished.

The Greek Orthodox Holy Diocese of France says, "We pray for a speedy recovery and unequivocally condemn all forms of violence."

Father Kakavelakis is said to have had a long-running legal dispute with a former monk who was convicted of defamation, according to French media reports.
