On the same day as achieving a vaccination milestone, the province is sharing another COVID-19 accomplishment.

Public Health is announcing the 36 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, one of the lowest case counts the province has seen all year.

Exactly four weeks ago 251 new cases were announced in Manitoba. In March cases spiked, but June and July have seen a steady decrease in cases, putting Manitoba on track to see the lowest daily case count since the fall of 2020.

Other than March 1's 35 and October 7's 36 cases, daily case counts have not been less than three dozen since October 4, 2020.

Tuesday's new cases include:

  • 24 new cases in the Winnipeg health region
  • five new cases in the Interlake–Eastern health region
  • three new cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region
  • two new cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region
  • two new cases in the Northern health region

After a data correction, there are 56,516 total lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in Manitoba, with 54,392 recovered and  972 active. Manitoba's five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 5.9 per cent and Winnipeg's is 5.7 per cent.

As of Tuesday morning, Manitoba has achieved its August Long Weekend vaccination goal, with 75.1 per cent of all Manitobans receiving their first COVID-19 vaccine, and 51.1 per cent their second.

Manitoba's Chief Public Health Officer says before restrictions can be loosened there needs to be two weeks between health order amendments, but the province will be seeing restrictions loosen sooner than August 2. On Friday, Dr. Jazz Atwal, Deputy Chief, said restrictions could loosen as soon as mid-July.

Loosenings will also depend on hospitalizations. There are currently 155 Manitobans needing COVID-19 hospital care.

There are 63 people in hospital in Manitoba with active COVID-19  and 86 no longer infectious people in care.

In ICU, 36 are in Manitoba and six in Ontario. In Manitoba, 15 people have active cases and 21 are no longer infectious.
