Investigators are looking into the events that led up to a fatal crash between a semi and train Monday afternoon.

A 16-year-old boy was behind the wheel of a semi-truck just before 4 p.m. Monday. He and his 46-year-old driving instructor were driving the trailer-less semi on Provincial Road 44 East, between PR 68N and PR 69N in the RM of Brokenhead when they came upon train tracks.

The teen stopped at the crossing and then proceeding through the intersection, immediately being struck by an oncoming train.

When officers from the Beausejour RCMP detachment arrived, the local 46-year-old man was being pulled from the semi. He was then pronounced deceased.

The teen required hospital care for non-life threatening injuries.
