The RCMP says they are heading to York Landing, Man. to search the area after receiving tips that two murder suspects may have been spotted in the community. 

UPDATE 8:50 p.m.

Rumours on social media claim that at least one of the suspects were captured. However, the RCMP says that as of 8:50 p.m. nobody has been taken into custody.


"Multiple RCMP resources are being sent to York Landing, MB, to investigate a tip that the two suspects are possibly in, or near, the community," the RCMP said in a release Sunday evening. Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, and Kam McLeod, 19, are wanted in connection with three murders in northern B.C.

"A heavy police presence can be expected in the area. We will continue to update you as information becomes available."

Chief Leroy Constant of York Factory Cree Nation asked residents to stay indoors and keep their doors locked.

"We received word that there was a possible sighting around our community landfill moments ago," he wrote shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday. 

York Landing is approximately 680 kilometres north of Winnipeg, and 90 kilometres southwest of Gillam. 

The RCMP says they've received over 200 tips in the last five days. However, there have been no confirmed sightings of the two suspects since they were seen in Gillam on Monday, July 22.
