The Manitoba government is being urged to backtrack on cuts to some health services and social programs after getting another increase in federal transfer payments.

The Manitoba New Democrats made the call after the federal Finance Department released figures showing Manitoba will see a $255 million jump in equalization funding next year. It will be the third straight year that equalization to the province will jump by more than 10 per cent.

Finance Minister Scott Fielding says the extra cash will help Manitoba balance its budget as promised in 2022/23.

But he says the province has also kept a tight rein on spending.
