After numerous delays, Winnipeg's new women's hospital has officially opened.

The new facility, which is located at the corner of William Avenue and Sherbrook Street, began accepting patients at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

The new state of the art 380,000 sq. ft. hospital was first slated to open in 2014 but was faced with numerous delays including a fire and initial troubles with the foundation.

For the most part, construction of the new facility was completed in February 2019, but staff spent months training in the new space, making sure all of the equipment had been installed properly and was ready to go.

The former Women's Pavilion on Notre Dame Avenue will now undergo extensive renovations as it begins its transformation into the future location of a new 28 bed acute stroke unit.
