Internationally renowned gospel singer Sammie Okposo has died at the age of 51 his family says.

Punch News first reported that Okposo died Friday morning local time. His family has now confirmed the news by releasing a statement.

“It is with a heavy heart but with total submission to God that I announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, Minister of God, Sammie Okposo," Punch reports the statement read.

“Sammie slept and went to be with the Lord on the morning of Friday, November 25, 2022," the family says.

Okposo was a well-known singer as well as a producer and was the CEO of his own entertainment company. While he was from Nigeria, Okposo had a global following and often performed internationally.

Earlier this year he publicly confessed to an affair and sought the forgiveness of his wife, family, and fans. He said at the time he was stepping back from ministry and music for a season to focus on reconciliation and refocusing his relationship with Jesus.

The family says they are clinging to their hope in Christ as they deal with the sudden passing.

“We are consoled because we know that he is with Jesus singing with angels. We kindly request that the family is allowed to grieve peacefully at this time.”

No funeral plans have been announced yet.
