Social services from the City of Winnipeg are assisting 15 people who were displaced following a fire at a Main St. hotel.

The City of Winnipeg says in a release that emergency crews were called just after 6 a.m. to a fire in a three-storey hotel in the 700 block of Main St.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found smoke in the building. A fire was located in one of the suites. It had been kept under control by the building’s sprinkler system. Crews were quickly able to extinguish the remaining hot spots.

No injuries were reported. The City says that while fire damage was minimal, the building sustained significant water damage. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services (ESS) team helped approximately 15 displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.
