A pair of fires kept the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic service busy Monday morning.

The first blaze broke out just before 12:45 a.m. in a hotel in the 500 block of Main Street.

Smoke was coming from the building when crews arrived. However, firefighters entered the hotel and attacked the fire from inside, declaring the fire under control shortly after 1 a.m.

No injuries were reported, and damage was contained to the suite where the fire started.

Preliminary investigations suggest the cause of the fire was accidental, caused by improper disposal of smoking materials.

A few hours later, fire crews were called to a 19-storey apartment complex in the 300 block of Assiniboine Avenue.

Crews could see light smoke coming from one of the suites when they arrived. It took crews about a half-hour to get the fire under control.

No one was injured and the fire, for the most part, was contained to the suite where the fire started.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
