A manhunt just outside of Winnipeg's city limits has come to a quick end Saturday evening.

Just after 11 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service sent out a message on social media warning residents of Headingley to stay indoors due to an escaped prisoner from the Headingley Correctional Centre.

Originally police said there was "a serious occurrence at the Headingley Jail." Shortly afterwards they clarified that a prisoner had escaped.

Several police units searched the area, including the town of Headingley.

Residents in the area say that police were going door to door in the search. Air1 was also involved according to residents.

Within almost 30 minutes of sending out their first message, the WPS tweeted that the prisoner had been captured.

WPS thanked the public for their cooperation. There are no details on how the prisoner escaped, or how they were captured, at this time.
