Mikki is back with her family after a harrowing experience. A good Samaritan had her car and dog stolen when she stopped to help people whose car had died.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the incident occurred Thursday evening on Regent Ave.

Mary Perron was at a shopping centre when she noticed a group of people with a dead car in the parking lot. When jumper cables wouldn't work she let the people escape the bitter cold and stay warm in her car.

When Perron went inside a store to pick up an item the group stole the car, complete with Mikki the 2-year-old border collie.

The story quickly went viral in Manitoba, gathering hundreds of shares in just a few hours.

Thankful even to thieves

Perron says in an online post on Saturday that she is grateful to the police, media, and public for helping share her story.

And, she says, she's even grateful to the thieves.

"Even the thieves that stoled Mikki for letting her go in Winnipeg area."
