A 49-year-old man is facing charges after being located at the scene of a serious crash.

RCMP Manitoba says a man was arrested and is facing an Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle after an overnight crash.

On Saturday at 12:55 a.m., a police officer with Gimli RCMP patrolling Highway 8 near Siglavik Road discovered a vehicle in a ditch. The vehicle was overturned on its roof and had debris surrounding it.

The lone officer then exited his cruiser and approached the overturned vehicle. Inside the officer found an injured man, trapped.

RCMP believe the vehicle was going north on Highway 8 when the driver lost control, entering the ditch and rolling.

The attending officer immediately called emergency crews. RCMP says a local fire department also came to assist.

Extracting the man, emergency crews took the driver to the hospital with serious injuries.

While investigating, police learned the driver was impaired and arrested the driver.

The RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team and RCMP Gimli are investigating.
