Police were using a different vantage point to target distracted driving today.

Winnipeg police officers were on various bus routes, focusing on passenger and operator safety as well as watching for drivers using hand held devices.

Staff Sergeant Sean Pollock says intercepting officers following the buses could be contacted by officers inside the buses if driving infractions were seen.

Police used the opportunity to make people aware of increased distracted driving enforcement next month.

With new legislation recently announced by the province, distracted driving in Manitoba will soon earn offenders a three-day licence suspension for a first offence, and seven days for a second.
