RCMP officers got more than they bargained for after responding to a rollover near Portage la Prairie late last week.

At around 11:40 p.m. on Nov. 16, officers responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 26 at Road 34 West in the RM of Portage la Prairie. When officers arrived, they located three occupants from Ontario and British Columbia in the vehicle.

The two male passengers appeared visibly intoxicated and were treated for minor injuries. The female occupant, who was later determined to be the driver, was not intoxicated and was not injured in the collision.

While officers were searching the vehicle, they located ammunition, which led to the arrest of the three individuals.

When one of the males, a 42-year-old from East York, Ontario, was searched, two handguns were found concealed on his person. The ammunition found matched one of the firearms.

The two others were released without charge.

The 42-year-old passenger is facing a long list of charges.

He remains in custody.

The cause of the rollover remains under investigation.
