The Winnipeg Police Service is sharing an update following the closure of Stradbrook Avenue on Sunday evening.

The WPS says they received a report from a third-party about a man breaking into a home in the 500 block of Stradbrook. The caller informed police that the man was known to the female occupant and was potentially armed.

Arriving at 6:12 p.m., police learned the suspect was still in the home. They say officers tried to contact the suspect but were unsuccessful in communicating.

At this time, officers had blocked off the street between Wellington Crennt and Osborne Street as a precaution.

Next, the Tactical Support Team arrived, entering the home. The team found the man at 7:23 p.m., taking the suspect into custody. Police say he was unarmed and the situation was safely resolved.

Police are not releasing the name of the suspect to protect the identity of the victim. The 31-year-old is facing charges of Break & Enter with Intent - Dwelling House.
