Today, the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada (RAC) welcomed the Vimy Flight Team to Winnipeg.

Accompanying the Vimy crew, a team of pilots and ground support touring on a volunteer-basis, was the visiting Nieuport 11, a flying 7/8 replica of the aircraft used at Vimy Ridge during the first World War built in honour of the 100th anniversary of Vimy Ridge.

The RAC is hosting an event in honour of the crew that was priviledged to perform a commemorative biplane flyover in Vimy, France in April of 2017, and is now touring Canada with their Vimy Flight: Birth of a Nation Tour. The team is travelling across the country, from coast to coast, in order to engage with communities, honour Canadian heroes from the past 100 years, and celebrate Canada's 150.

"The museum is about preserving our aviation history, and this was Canada's first fighter plane," explained Helen Halliday, the President and CEO of the RAC. "If you saw the plane, you wouldn't imagine it was a fighter plane because it was so small... if you saw inside, you can't imagine that someone was at war."

The Winnipeg event will run August 4-6 at the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada (Hangar T-2, 958 Ferry Rd.), and visitors will have the chance to view the Nieuport 11, meet Vimy Flight Team representatives. There will also be featured presentations everyday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., and scheduled flyovers at 11:30 a.m. each day, weather permitting.
