Those with COVID-19 vaccination appointments can enter a downtown COVID-19 vaccination site after the risk of a possible gas leak has been declared over.

The RBC Convention Centre super-site is reopening after a brief closure before 2 p.m. Monday.

The closure was caused due to the smell of a potential gas leak, which has since been resolved by Manitoba Hydro. Nearby roads have reopened.

"The RBC Convention Centre super-site was cleared to re-open at approximately 3:30 p.m. Anyone with an appointment at 4 p.m. or later will be able to attend their appointment at the RBC super-site as scheduled," the province tweets.

Approximately 1,300 people were affected by the pause on vaccines.  The province is asking those who were affected to rebook.

"New appointment times will be added to the booking system tomorrow morning so that those requiring new appointments can re-book as soon as possible."

Those with cancelled appointments and contact information will be contacted by Shared Health to reschedule.

The province says more updates will be provided as they are available

The RBC Convention Centre has been emptied of people after a possible gas leak at the site. The province says the site will not be admitting anyone for their COVID-19 vaccination appointments this afternoon.

“For safety, all appointments were immediately cancelled over the next few hours. We’re asking clients not to attend; we are in the process of determining how we will accommodate those whose appointments were cancelled," a spokesperson from the province says.

Manitoba Hydro is on site.

The province says Hydro and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic crews will be on-site for two hours, until approximately 4:30 p.m. Everyone who has an appointment at the Winnipeg supersite Monday is being asked not to come until further notice.

The Winnipeg Police Service was asking the public to avoid southbound Carlton Street and St. Mary Road, and York Avenue and Edmonton Street.
