Mounties in Manitoba say that an autopsy has been completed and that the body of a woman found in a submerged car near Molson, Man., was that of Brittany Storey.

Storey was reported missing last week after she was disconnected from a group chat while travelling from the Whiteshell area back to Winnipeg. An extensive search turned up no results of Storey or her vehicle until Tuesday, when tracks were discovered leading from a roadway into a pond.

And underwater recovery team pulled a vehicle from the pond and discovered a deceased woman inside.

The RCMP Major Crime Services has assisted the Whitemouth RCMP with the investigation. The RCMP says that an autopsy has been completed and investigative steps have been taken, confirming that the deceased was Storey.

Police say that the autopsy shows Storey died as a result of her vehicle entering the water. The RCMP says that there is no criminality to the events that caused her death, and that Storey's family has been notified and ask for privacy at this time.

“We thank everyone for their care and concern for Brittany and for helping in any way they could to find her,” said Sergeant Laura LeDrew of RCMP Major Crime Services. “It is not the ending any of us hoped for. As this is a non-criminal matter, we will respect Brittany’s privacy and that of her family and will not be providing further information.”
