One person is in the hospital facing serious injuries after a crash in a remote community.

Early on New Years', Little Grand Rapids RCMP received a call about a serious crash on the Main Road at the Winter Road access point, in Pauingassi First Nation. Pauingassi is approximately 280 kilometres north of Winnipeg. 

They say a snowmobile collided with a shored fishing boat, throwing a 20-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man from the snowmobile.

Arriving at 1:35 a.m., officers found the pair. The woman was taken to the nursing station but succumbed to her injuries. The man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Neither rider was wearing a helmet.

RCMP say they are continuing to investigate.
