Manitobans should be on the lookout for severe weather Friday.

Environment Canada says "several thunderstorm scenarios are possible on Friday."

Forecasters say ongoing showers and non-severe thunderstorms are expected in the morning, and may reintensify through the day throughout much of the province.

"New thunderstorms may also develop from daytime heating as the skies clear. Finally, a trough of low pressure moving in from the west will likely carry additional thunderstorms into province later in the day.

"These multiple opportunities, combined with high instability in the area, warrant a severe threat area."

EC's prairie outlook storm mapEnvironment Canada's thunderstorm outlook map currently has much of southern Manitoba under a severe or moderate threat.

That severe threat area goes from the Saskatchewan border in the west, all of the U.S. border in the south, as far north as the Duck Mountains, and cuts down to the southeast to the Ontario border, and includes the City of Winnipeg.

The Central Region of Manitoba is under a moderate threat potential, Evnironment Canada says.

Large hail and severe winds are probable from the strongest thunderstorms. That includes wind up to 100 km/h.

Environment Canada also says that "an isolated tornado or two is also possible. Conditions to support severe weather gradually diminish northward through central Manitoba. Activity will weaken by late evening, though non-severe thunderstorms may continue through the night."
