Like the Downtown, Exchange, and West End BIZ's before it, the Osborne Village BIZ is launching a foot patrol ambassador program.

Osborne Village BIZ is contributing $27,000 this year, and $30,000 is coming from the city's civic initiatives fund. Mayor Brian Bowman also announced $30,000 to each of the other BIZ foot patrol programs earlier this year.

"Safety ambassador and foot patrol programs operated by business improvement zones are a highly visible, well-understood, and effective safety resource," said Bowman at an announcement of the program's launch today on Osborne and Stradbrook.

Osborne Village BIZ executive director Stephanie Meilleur says the program will be launching in two weeks, and will consist of daily patrols, both during the day and night. She says the overall idea behind the program is to maintain safety in the village.

Meilleur says they will be evaluating as they go, to see when patrols are needed more or less. She says the program will run from May until fall or winter.

Meilleur also says there will be a safe walk program offered on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m., which is a supervised walk for anyone in the area.

Foot patrol safety ambassadors wear yellow tops with black, giving them the nickname the Bumblebees of Osborne Village.
