A sinkhole that opened up on Tuesday afternoon will keep a significant portion of McPhillips closed until Sunday.

Around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, a large sinkhole appeared on northbound McPhillips, north of Leila Avenue.

Traffic on northbound McPhillips remains closed, but traffic may turn on to Leila in either direction.

Southbound traffic at the intersection is not affected.

The curb and centre lanes on westbound Leila Avenue are also closed but the median lane remains open.

Eastbound Leila will not be able to turn left, but no additional lanes are closed.

The pedestrian crosswalk on the north side will also remain closed.

The City of Winnipeg says the centre and curb lanes on westbound Leila will reopen by Friday afternoon, while all northbound lanes on McPhillips are expected to reopen on Monday, March 26.

Pipeline Road or McGregor Street are close alternatives.
