A Winnipeg neighbourhood's skating rink is being used as a parking area following a disagreement over a leasing deal.

A spokesman for the West Broadway Community Centre says that in the past, the city has paid the insurance for the skating rink and the neighbourhood has maintained it.

The city is restructuring the agreement and is asking the centre to pay for the insurance, which the centre says it can't afford.

Resident Michael Friesen says the rink is a focal point for the neighbourhood and that it is used frequently.

Councillor Sherri Rollins says it's a budget issue and she'll work with the city and the centre to clear up the problem.
