Most of southern Manitoba is sitting under a special weather statement as a blast of summer heat heads this way.

Environment Canada says that a building ridge of high pressure from the West coast will bring daytime highs in the 30s and overnight lows in the mid to upper teens.

A reprieve from the hottest temperatures is expected this weekend, however, temperatures remain warm into early next week in the southeastern prairies.

Heat warnings may be issued in the coming days as needed.
