A man is facing over a dozen charges after an April collision sent four people to hospital.

In the early afternoon of April 7, a man was gathering items from the back seat of his truck in an 1100 block of Arlington Street parking lot. The man had left his truck's engine running while he was outside of his truck, gathering his things.

While the man was distracted, a suspect then leaped into the front of the running truck, stealing the vehicle.

"The suspect narrowly missed hitting the driver as he fled in the truck," the Winnipeg Police Service says in a statement.

The truck, now stolen, later made its way to the intersection of Portage Avenue and Vaughn Street. The driver of the truck attempted to cross the intersection. but the intersection's light had been red for a full 16 seconds at the time.

"The suspect narrowly missed several pedestrians that were crossing Portage Avenue in rush-hour traffic."

The truck did not make the intersection and caused a collision between the truck and two Winnipeg transit busses.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene at 4:15 p.m to attend to the collision.

Four individuals who were on the busses were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

After the downtown collision, the suspect attempted to enter numerous stopped vehicles but was unsuccessful. The man then fled on foot.
