A terminally ill cancer patient who recorded a video from her hospital bed that urged Canadians to vote has died, the teen’s family says.

Maddison Yetman's video message from her hospital bed last month was for Canadians to vote in the October 21 federal election.

On Saturday, her uncle, Brent Williamson, announced on social media that the Winnipeg teen has died. "Our beautiful little peanut passed away yesterday," Williamson said in a tweet on Sunday. "She was stronger than anyone could imagine and left a wonderful mark on this world."

Yetman's video, made shortly after her cancer diagnosis at age 18, showed her holding up cards with hand-written messages saying she managed to vote in advance of the federal election despite having terminal cancer.

A message posted on Yetman's social media accounts on Sunday said that the teenager asked that her family "thank everyone who sent messages of support and love."

Her family said that in lieu of flowers, mourners should donate to the Nature Conservancy of Canada
