T'is the season of grabbing the family or hanging out with friends by grabbing some ice cream. Here are the best ice cream shops in Manitoba according to our listeners.

Earlier this week, we posted on our Facebook and Instagram a question, which asked our listeners which ice cream shops were their favourites.

After tallying up all comments, with a wide variety of different ice cream shops listed and some ties for placements, here are the five best ice cream shops in the province.

5. Dairy Queen and Sweet Annie's

There was a two-way tie for the fifth-best shop in Manitoba, with listeners voting for Dairy Queen and Sweet Annie's.

One of our listeners, Deanna, called in and shared a story about why Dairy Queen is her favourite.

"Whenever we would go to Grand Forks, because that's where I grew up, in North Dakota, then she would always take me with her. I was adopted when I was 12 years old, and so that was kind of how we started, we went to Dairy Queen to celebrate that I now belong to her."

Ice cream always tastes sweeter when there are fond memories attached.

4. Chaeban, Fête and What's The Scoop?

Coming in at fourth is Chaeban on Osbourne, Fête on Assiniboine, and What's the Scoop? in Portage La Prairie.

"Chaeban brings it year-round, best ice cream in the city!" comments Dustin Schellenberg.

Meanwhile, What's the Scoop? had a rocky (road) start to the season. Due to road work, customers had some trouble finding parking close to the shop, but they are now ready for business.

3. Sub Zero, the Kiln, and The Ice Cream Hut

Okay, this is the last tie, we promise!

For third place, many of our listeners loved Sub Zero, the Kiln, and The Ice Cream Hut.

We love to see that there's great ice cream all across the province, ranging from Winnipeg to Stonewall and even Altona!

"It's got that old diner feel," says CHVN listener Carly about the Kiln. "They've got outdoor seating, indoor seating, so you're kind of covered in whatever weather and it's just the local hotspot for my coworkers, family and friends."

2. Syl's Drive Inn

The second favourite ice cream shop in Manitoba is Syl's Drive Inn located in Carmen.

Many people commented that when it comes to anything ice cream, even milkshakes, Syl's is the best place to go. And on top of that, while you're enjoying a sweet treat, customers can also enjoy a round of mini golf.

1. Charley B's

Many of you may have seen this coming, but it is Charley B's Classic Grill & Ice Cream Parlour that is Manitoba's best ice cream shop. This fan favourite, which beat all others by a landslide, is located in Winkler off Highway 14.

Barb Harder commented that their ice cream is made on-site, which is why it tastes so good.

Their latest invention on their menu is the Carrot Cake Crush which consists of a vanilla soft serve, blended with homemade carrot cake and cream cheese icing, all topped with cream cheese icing and a sprinkle of cinnamon brown sugar.

Honourable Mention: Ko's Ice Cream Store

Despite this ice cream store no longer being in business, in fact, the entire building has been torn down, but many people commented saying it was one of the best.

So, we feel it deserves an honourable mention.
