A roaring fire illuminated the sky around Deacon’s Corner just before 7:30 Tuesday morning after the front compartment of a parked semi-truck suddenly burst into flames.

While the spectacle drew the attention of many passing motorists, the blaze was contained to the Petro Canada parking lot so the general flow of traffic was undisturbed.

Bryan Madsen, the Deputy Chief for the Oakbank Fire Department, says his crews arrived on the scene to find the cab had already been completely consumed by the blaze. They were, however, able to extinguish the fire before significant damage was done to its trailer.

With the gas station so nearby Madsen admits the stakes were a little bit higher, but he says the wind was favourable and the pumps were turned off during the event so there was never any real danger.

Madsen adds the cause of the fire could not be determined.
