Fire crews say they found heavy smoke and flames escaping a charcoaling house.

At 6:55 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a house fire in the 400 block of Bannatyne Avenue. The fire was called in by members of the Winnipeg Police Service’s general patrol.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the home. Crews launched a defensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 7:33 p.m.

Crews searched the home and confirmed no occupants were inside. A neighbouring home was temporarily evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available, but the home sustained significant smoke, fire, and water damage.
