After the recovery of his bike, a Steinbach man says he's glad to live in a community where people want to see justice.

Zach Giesbrecht says his bike was stolen last week Tuesday on First Street behind Solomon's Furniture, only three weeks after he bought it. He adds he returned from lunch at 1:15 and at 1:27 surveillance footage showed an individual putting the bike into the back of his truck and driving away.

"I don't know why he did what he did but everybody deserves a second chance."

Giesbrecht says he posted on Facebook that his bike was stolen, along with the video and there has been almost 7,000 views. He notes it was his roommate who helped in the recovery.

"My roommate, Josh Simpson, found out where this guy lived, just cause he knows trucks, he recognizes trucks and he'd seen this vehicle parked on this one street. So, we drove by and then we found out apparently where he worked and we went to his work and found the truck and then called the RCMP."

Giesbrecht explains the RCMP came to this individual's place of work and followed him home. He adds 20 minutes later he received a call saying his bike had been recovered.

"I'm not mad at him. I don't know why he did what he did but everybody deserves a second chance. I don't know where I would be right now if I didn't get any second chances. I'm just happy I got my bike back."

He says this may also be an opportunity for the community as a whole.

"To realize that we don't live in the community where everybody thinks we do. We live in a community where there are drugs, theft, crime, and we need to put stuff in place so that kind of thing doesn't happen."

Giesbrecht adds his lesson in this event is to purchase a bike lock to prevent his bike from being stolen again.
