Well-known author, filmmaker and retired pastor Michael Catt has entered palliative care.

Catt, the former pastor of Sherwood Church in Albany, Georgia, has been battling prostate cancer for the past five years.

On Thursday, his family announced on social media that Michael only had months to live.

"Recently, doctors found a tumour in his brain stem. They do not recommend operating on the tumour. Because of this, we have chosen to forego any future cancer treatments, with the goal now being to make him as comfortable as possible through palliative care for the few months he has left this side of heaven," said the family in a statement on Facebook.

The family is now asking for prayers for his wife, Terri. They pray that she and Michael will have many precious and holy moments together in the coming weeks.

"We ask that you pray for relief from any pain and unexplainable peace for Michael as he fights the good fight and finishes his race here on earth."

Catt is also known for launching Sherwood Pictures. Michael served as the Executive Producer of FlywheelFacing the GiantsFireproof, and Courageous, as well as multiple music and video projects. He has also served as Executive Producer for the Erwin Brothers’ film Woodlawn.

"We know how much Michael means to so many of you. He has been a son, a father figure, a friend, a mentor, a brother, a shepherd, a prophet, and more. We would love for you to share your favourite stories and fond memories with us."

They're asking anyone with memories of their father to contact them by emailing CattLegacy@gmail.com.

"Thank you for loving our family so well," said the family in a Facebook post. "We live to make Him known."
