Welcome Place has stepped up to help the influx of refugees coming across the southern border, but now they need your help.

Last Saturday, Welcome Place launched their campaign called Open Your Hearts. It was started to help respond to the refugees that are crossing the border.

This week, another 19 refugees came across the border. The family had a small child that they took across the border, and Welcome Place responds to the majority of these people.

"[Welcome Place] gets them started on the process to formally apply for refugee status," said Colin Dorrian, who sits on the board of directors for Welcome Place. "We help to find them housing. We have housing for them when they come in but it's short-term."

"We help them navigate through the social system . . . we provide translation services, and we try to get them going."

Dorrian expects more refugees to come across the border and wants to help them get started in their new home. He is asking for your help, whether it's $5, $10 or $50.
