Southwestern Manitoba could see some severe weather today, while that same system may hit Winnipeg and eastern Manitoba later this evening.

Bryan van Wilgenburg from Environment Canada says, "it looks like there's a pretty good potential for severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes in southwest Saskatchewan in the afternoon hours, and in southwest Manitoba in the afternoon hours."

That same system could hit parts further east in Manitoba, including Winnipeg, this evening. "For now we're just hypothesizing . . . but it looks like good potential that these storms will form a line and track through the southern part of the province through the evening and overnight hours."

Van Wilgenburg also notes that the system has the potential for producing wind gusts up to 90 km/h.

Rain is likely to continue through Saturday, according to van Wilgenburg. "We'll be sitting under an upper low - it's very unstable. We'll likely see weak showers and thunderstorms developing pretty early in the day. It will be kind of like popcorn kernels all over the place."

It's not all bad news for the weekend, though. Sunday we can expect sunshine and 25 degrees.
